Home News Construction to stay open as UK enters Lockdown #3

On Monday evening, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that England will enter a third period of  lockdown. The move follows similar moves in the devolved nations.

The latest lockdown is a response to concerns about the rapid rise in cover infections and deaths. Construction is considered essential and sites can remain open and continue to work under Covid-19 site operating procedures.

Government guidelines mean you can only leave home for work purposes where it is unreasonable for you to do your job from home, including but not limited to people who work within critical national infrastructure, construction or manufacturing that require in-person attendance. There were rumours that construction may be forced to shut down in Scotland.

Tradespeople are also able to work in other people’s homes while adhering to covid secure guidelines and builders merchants and specialist distributors will be able to remain open. However, industry sources reveal that in areas of high infection merchants are facing staffing challenges.

The latest lockdown will be reviewed regularly but is expected to remain in place until the middle of February but could extend into the spring.
