A total of 18 openings within Lower Lodge Gatehouse, a grandiose Grade II listed former entrance to Ashton Court Estate, in Bristol, have received secondary glazing from Techniglaze, a partner of Selectaglaze for over 20 years.

The Gatehouse is being given a new lease of life as a museum and gallery as part of Bristol’s plans to restore five estate lodges through grant funding. Its original windows have crooked glass, no thicker than 3mm, and leaky frames. They are set in stone and have leaded lights, so the character and sightlines needed to stay in order to adhere to the craftsmanship of the time.

Timber frames were made for all openings to ensure an accurate opening was generated to fix the secondary glazing to, making sure it was a tight fit to remove any draughts or air gaps. The series 45 hinged casement was specified with gothic arched heads, to allow for a clear view of the primary glazing, without adding any new sightlines.
