Home Product News Rockfon creates artistic sound control

Rockfon ceilings have been installed throughout the refurbished Morriston Hospital in Swansea with the talking point being the impressive Rockfon Eclipse islands in the main atrium.

Rockfon Morriston Hospital SwanseaArt is used at Morriston Hospital to have a positive impact on patients’ health. To provide sound absorption and continue the visual theme, BAM Construction specified Rockfon Eclipse islands. Printed in a bespoke pattern for the hospital, these are decorated with the outline of fractured striated rock on the visible surface and are suspended at different heights and in different sizes to create a wave formation.

Rockfon Eclipse islands are available in squares, rectangles, circles, standard geometric shapes and custom patterns and can be suspended easily from many structures.

Mike Sealey, design manager for BAM Construction, said: “BAM had already chosen Rockfon for its outstanding acoustic performance, cost and infection control properties. Rockfon Eclipse helps keep reverberation levels to a minimum in this busy area and provides a fascinating sculpture which lends patterns of light and visual variety to the large space.”

Rockfon MediCare Plus ceiling tiles with a water-repellent, bacteria- and mould-resistance fleece were also installed throughout the wards, treatments rooms, corridors and dental school rooms using a Chicago Metallic Click grid system.
