Home Features Health and safety UK leaves EU but remains aligned until end of 2020

The United Kingdom left the European Union at the end of January and it is now in a transition period until 31 December 2020, while negotiations with the EU take place about the future relationship.

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said: “We want this to be the beginning of a new era of friendly cooperation between the EU and an energetic Britain.”

During this transition period the UK will continue to follow EU regulations and in the construction sector the duty of businesses to manage risk in the workplace will not change.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) issued a statement saying: “Good health and safety is good for business, we want to help organisations to manage risk well and proportionately. This will help maintain standards and keep people healthy and safe.”

Further information about Brexit is available from the HSE and its   ‘Health and Safety made simple’ guidance provides useful information to help businesses manage the risks in their business in a proportionate way.
